Dagobert ‘s throne

Could this be the first folding furniture in history?
“Dagobert’s throne” is an armchair that is traditionally attributed to King Dagobert, although no reliable historical source can prove it.
It is in bronze and has the particularity of having folding legs. It would have been used by the king during his travels.
Having become a symbol of royalty, it was notably used by Napoleon ^I.
Wooden copies of this throne have been made throughout history (seats and armchairs known as Dagobert).
The original seat is now preserved in the Department of Coins, Medals and Antiques of the National Library of France.

The straw chair

Van Gogh popularized the “straw chair” through his paintings.
It is found in two of his most famous works, “Bedroom in Arles” and “Vincent’s Chair”.
Proust’s little madeleine, this rustic wooden chair with a woven straw seat is highly evocative.
Like any good classic, it still finds its place in our interiors today, whether in its traditional form or in a revisited form.

The Pomare armchair

Popularized by the movie Emmanuelle, this imposing rattan armchair is nonetheless representative of a moment in history.
Originally from Polynesia, it is the throne on which sit the Tahitian kings of the Pomare dynasty in the 18th and 19th centuries.
But it was in 1967 that it will be used in the United States for a shot that has gone down in history.
Huey P. Newton, co-founder of the Black Panther movement, is photographed enthroned on this chair, holding a spear in one hand and a rifle in the other.
A modern depiction of a king posing with royal regalia, this image has become one of the symbols of the revolutionary Black Panther African-American liberation movement.
